Outreach

Habitat for Humanity ~ Sedgefield Church has been involved with Habitat for Humanity since 1988. In recent years, we have partnered with the Charlotte Church Partners (CCP), a group of about 12 churches, to build two houses a year.

Loaves and Fishes ~ This is an emergency food pantry providing groceries for neighbors in need throughout Mecklenburg County. Sedgefield Church participates by collecting non-perishable food on the first Sunday of every month and transporting it to the Loaves and Fishes pantry located at one of our neighboring churches.

Operation Christmas Child ~ Our church works to support children around the world through OCC. We provide shoeboxes in November for our members to fill with suggested items like small toys, stuffed animals, crayons, washcloths, markers and paper. We collect the boxes in early December and have a dedication during worship. Each December, we have one or two groups volunteer their time at the OCC warehouse here in Charlotte.

Charlotte Rescue Mission ~ One Sunday a month, volunteers from Sedgefield Church assist with the evening meal at Rebound.
Rebound provides free Christian residential drug and recovery services for men. The group leaves the church parking lot at 4 pm and returns about 6:30 pm.

Room In The Inn ~ This organization partners with facilities to provide shelter and food for homeless people during the winter months. Holy Comforter Episcopal Church is a neighboring church and one of these facilities. We partner with them once a month, Saturday night through Sunday morning, by providing and serving three meals (dinner, breakfast and bag lunch), setting up to welcome the guests, staying with the guests over night, and restoring the classrooms for use on Sunday morning. The basic goal is to keep homeless people from freezing on cold winter nights. A greater goal is to provide a more personal relationship to homeless people, and to foster a deeper understanding of the depth and complexity of the issue.

Mentoring for K-5th Grade ~ Each Tuesday and Wednesday during the school year, 3-5 pm we offer asssistance with reading and homework for elementary children. Volunteers work with a child once a week for one hour 4-5 pm. No educational experience is necessary for help with this ministry.

Community Involvement ~ In the heart of the Sedgefield neighborhood, we feel we are residents of the Sedgefield community too. As a good neighbor, we open our facility for meetings of the Neighborhood Association (SNA), as a voting site for our neighborhood, and as a gathering location for neighborhood activities. The neighbors are especially invited to the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Fun Days and the Fall Festival. We are also proud to partner with the SNA for the neighborhood festival, Sedgefest.
